Hello Mary - i honestly believe that there is danger everywhere and every country. if we live in fear then we are wasting our lives. Of course there is wisdom in being careful too.
South Africa has a very high crime rate but that said when i visited France I felt more insecure. I think at least in your own country you know where to go and where to stay away from. And which areas you need to be more vigilant in.  Where I stay is very beautiful but you know you don't go swimming deep in the sea because we do have a lot of great Whites here, but honestly i am more scared of the snakes. We have a huge amount of venomous snakes and scorpions in the conservatory.  i have to remind the kids and grandkids when they come to visit to always where shoes at night no matter how hot and to always be aware and watch out for snakes. we also keep the doors closed - but there is a lot of natural beauty here as well that can take your breathe away. I hate city life so am very happy here. My ideal would be to live on a farm or small holding but here that is "suicide" and beyond dangerous. my husband's dream is to move to America and have a small holding there. ....lolz i tell him it's not like the movies.
