Good morning Caroline! 15 mins away isnt too far, but I bet b/c its anew house the soil probably has been worked. I find it fascinating how the soil content can change the colors. How fun to have fresh apples to make apple pie! Ive never seen a red apple tree, only the yellow apples. Arent those called pie apples or something like that?  My grandma had one in her yard. Maybe thats just what she called them, lol. I hope you have great day my friend!
