Hi Sue.  If you put veggies on a low plate you'd get Foxes visit and you may even get a melanistic one appear.

All the ways to get/earn gold are on the Find Gold page:
1. everyone gets 50 free daily sprinkles every 20 hours
2. Leveling Up gives 25 gold and 25 blue diamonds
3. Hunt the Bug gives 20 gold every time you spot it (when you're new, it shows up frequently, but at higher levels, only every 3 weeks)
4. Herbalism - once you've unlocked and harvested all the different Herbs and Bonsai, you can work on this
5. Spot 'First' Wildlife - certain wildlife will give bonus gold if you spot the first one a garden is hosting (doesn't count if you spot in your own garden). Check out the Wildlife guide for details.
6. Support Fairyland (aka buy gold with real money) - this is an option, but not required to play the game. Everyone can access all parts of the game (assuming you do the work to level up/earn it). Buying gold just supports FL, gives you gold, and you can "play" faster because you don't have to 'stop' when your daily sprinkles are used.

Put out veggies and you will attract the fox on the low plate.
