On the eve of the night of the strawberry moon
At the cliffs of Beinn Nibheis
The fairies build the Solstice fire
From the wood of the Yuletide wreaths
The pounding of the fairy drums
Call all to gather there
To join their magic with the sun
For its longest day to bear
They come to bring in Solstice
As they play an important part
They dance the summer dance of flames
Drums resounding through each heart
They dance around the leaping flames
Caught up in its blazing power
To give the sun the strength it needs
When it reaches the solstice hour
Their feet become a frenzied blur
The music quite untamed
And when the final pinnacle’s met
They dance with feet of flames
Round and round the fire they dance
Their energy sent to the sun
For when he rises on Solstice Day
A long journey has begun
He’ll burn in the sky at his highest point
For that one day of the year
The longest day and the brightest light
Must shine on the harvests near
Abundant crops and vibrant blooms
Are dependent on his light
And so the fairies help the sun
To keep him burning bright
The dancers dance the whole night through
Until the break of dawn
The solstice sun begins his rise
And the strawberry moon will yawn
The fairies dancing feet of flames
Have earned their time of rest
And now the feasting time begins
Till the sun sets again in the west
They tell the tales of Solstice’ past
And sing their songs of blessings
Abundance now will come to pass
Even though the light will lessen
Their fairy magic has been renewed
From their union with the sun
And for this special time of year
Bring bright blessings on everyone.
