How do I make sure I get a violet chick. Do I need just the violet egg or Do I need to swap different colors like I see in other posts.

The chick will always go to the lowest color egg it can.  So, in addition, you need an indigo egg.  Everytime the indigo wobbles, dump the food.  When the violet wobbles, you are guaranteed a violet chick.

No trick.  It's just that 6 of the 7 colors will come to the indigo while only one will come to the violet.  So, your odds of the indigo egg wobbling are pretty high.

I wish the chicks matched their egg colours, we get alerts for specific caterpillars so think the chicks should hatch from their corresponding colour egg too 👍

I think it's done the way it is because that's what makes the rarer colours increasingly rare :)
