A Question About the Waxwing

Sharon and Orlando Hissy Fit1 hour, 51 minutes ago

I see where the Waxwing Chick is attracted by fruit and birdmix, so my question is, "Why can't the adult Waxwing be attracted by birdmix?" I had put in an empty nest and grew two sparkling butterfly plants to keep the Cuckoo away. There have been three butterflies to show up. Thank goodness none of them were spotted! I did add a Dulcia Fructus, so (when that's ready for harvest) will it help Simon the Strawberry to attract the Waxwing and keep the butterflies away? I would appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

You can’t deter the butterfly if you have the sparkling plants so if you have them and tropical fruits out there’s no way around it …. What I tend to do if I’m needing a chick in a nest is take a look at my count for the Particular bird I need for the egg and only pop out a nest when I’m due for the correct multiple of it to nest … this way i don’t have an empty nest just sat bringing the cuckoos in. I can’t answer the food question as I really don’t know but just sharing one of the ways I go about getting the bird I want to nest in sure others may have other helpful suggestions:)

If you don't attach a caterpillar to the butterpillaflora, it won't attract a butterfly but will still deter the cuckoos.  Or let the butterfly be spotted on your current one, and it will still deter.

*edit ~ if you don’t have a worm on your plant you won’t have the butterfly coming …. Do you can have the plants out just not sparkling and therefore not attracting the butterfly !

Well, there I go again, having another senior moment! I thought that the butterfly plant had to be sparkling. Duh! Many thanks, Laura and Tracey!
