The wildlife guide says 'ready for harvest' Christmas tree. Does it matter whether the gift is opened?

I don't believe you can actually harvest the tree until you've opened the gift. But it doesn't seem to say 'ready for harvest' only 'completed' so perhaps any completed tree will do...
