This is a silly question, but how do I access the marketplace? I cannot find a way and have clicked on everything! A friend said to click on the mushroom on the upper left, but when I drag the cursor there a window pops up showing details of my garden.

Go to your pot storage shelves and click the Marketplace tab there.

I found out recently because I was all the time getting to marketplace through the storage icon which I started to get lazy .. but for example if you hunt gold critters in the gold critters section and in each of them you have a marketplace icon in blue clickable to go directly to it and then also in the  news page when clicking pottery ads.. It takes you to the pottery section and also a marketplace icon in blue clickable to go directly to it.
Cant remember if there Is another section or place to find that blue icon of marketplace to go directly to it

Oh, i just looked for an icon in the wildlife section, Flavia, and i don't see one. Maybe it depends what device you're on? I'm using my computer at the moment.

Not the wildlife in general but in the gold wildlife let me check the whole info .. the wording lets say

Gold Wildlife
Gold Wildlife are special variations of regular Wildlife which can appear in Gardens with completed Bouquets.

First, you need to use Alchemy to turn one of the Pots shown into a Vase for your Bouquet. Check this page to see which pots you can use for each type of Gold Wildlife. You may already have one of these in your Storage, or they may be available to buy on the MARKETPLACE , or failing that, new pots will periodically be released to be earned in-game (e.g. in the Summer or Halloween challenge) and added to the list of possible pots you can use.

To make your Vase, find the pot on the Vase Tab of your Storage Area, and click the 'Make Vase' option which will take you to an Alchemy game to make your Vase.

When you have your Vase, the next stage is to build a Bouquet in it (click the Help button on the Vase itself for instructions how to do this)

Each completed bouquet can attract a maximum of 5 Gold Wildlife, and you can then simply keep the Bouquet for decoration, or harvest it and use the Vase for planting regular flowers.

New Vases and new Gold Wildife will be released regularly!

When you read the info and get to the MARKETPLACE ( in caps) its in blue its a clickable link it takes you to marketplace
