not sure the cost for rooms, id say i single room would be dearer than a double.
The government puts more money into the aged care system to keep them home if its possible for that to happen. if my mum were to go into a home now then they would take a huge amount a of her pension a fortnight. and it would then be like what happened to your mum, where we would be put in the situation to sell her home and then she the nursing home would take that money and what's left when mum would pass away that what we get.

Nope most of them are private, and they don't get much help from the government, that's why the take 90% of the residents pensions.
