I'm finally considering doing the chameleons, but have to admit I'm a bit nervous about starting. I read about how to do it in the forum, but I was having trouble understanding exactly how to proceed particularly because there was some contradictory info between different peoples posts! One thing I definitely want cleared up is this...if I start now and don't go all the way to the end(rainbow), do I lose everything I have already achieved and have to start over with the reds?

You start with a red flower.  To change it to orange, you have to first attract ten red chameleons to your own garden.  After that, every multiple of ten you spot in other gardens will change a red flower to orange.  After which you'd plant up another red, so that you were attracting orange chameleons, and attract ten orange ones, after which every multiple of ten orange chameleons you spot in other gardens changes the orange flower to yellow.  And you just keep going that way, adding a new red flower every time you needed to and working each one through the colours.

If you don't complete it in one go, you'd have to start with a red flower and work your way back through the colours.  You wouldn't need to attract another ten of any colours you'd already attracted ten of, but otherwise you'd work through them from the beginning.

Thanks so much for clarifying, Tracey...I actually understood that lol! Do you happen to know approximately how long it should take? I don't want to miss out on the beginning of "pink" month, so not sure if I should start this now!

Yes and No.

When you work on the chameleons, you need to attract 10 of each color before you can spot in other gardens to change the color of your plant. Once you've attracted 10 of each color, the ability to change plant colors is permanently unlocked.

However, if you stop in the middle, like at green - you've attracted 10 reds, 10 oranges, 10 yellows, and 10 greens, you will need to replant and spot in other gardens to change colors in order to move on to blue.
And since the chameleons required (until you reach rainbow), a plant of all the preceding colors, green chameleons need red/orange/yellow/green chameleon plants in order to visit, it's a lot of work to stop in the middle. However because the holidays are fast approaching, I understand not wanting to dedicate your garden for 3 months.

Technically, if you plant 7 chameleon plants (they all start as red) and work at attracting them quickly, you could in theory progress through fast enough to not need to stop (like maybe a month of hosting).

Okay, thank you Shannon! I'm going to have to give this some thought I see! xx

I need help please!! I have 12 spotted red chams in my garden ( 10 from when I tried this a year ago but gave up) and I have spotted 29 red chams in other gardens. Will the next one I spot turn my cham orange? Or do I need 8 more spotted in mine first??

You technically don't need to attract anymore to your garden, but they will visit simply because of your setup. When you spot in another garden your 30th red cham, it will change your red plant to orange.

Time wise, it took me 3 weeks, but I did it then the chams were first introduced and lots of people were doing it.
