1) When you need to spot one (1) water dragon you WILL spot at least 5 unicorns before you can spot the dragon.

2) When you need to have brown bunnies or grey squirrels spotted your garden WILL be over-run with albinos and melanistics.

3) The finest deterrent for any wildlife is to set up a Quest which requires you to spot/attract it.

4) anything with a time limit will mean that you spot none of the required animal within that time. However, you will spot dozens of them as soon as the time limit is up.

5)  Cancelling a Quest out of frustration will guarantee that the next wildlife you spot in any random garden will be the one you needed and had spent hours looking for.

6) When you decide you don't have time to run a quest, you will spot dozens of the animals required for the quest you didn't run within 5 minutes.

8) When you use an "all colours" plant to attract a specific coloured wildlife for your quest, it will always start as attracting "all colours but one".

9) You are guaranteed to spot your 10th of any Zodiac and get a birthstone
whenever you have forgotten to fill up your storage shelves (so that you won´t get  a fresh shelf coming with the birthstone).

10) A really bad set up so you can get the undesirable wildlife will bring in the most desirable.
This is how it worked when I tried to get Big Bad Wolf for 'Cats and Dogs' quest - no mushy, but I got almost wall to wall pigs.
It worked when I was getting ready for the badger - expected hedgehogs and foxes - an actual badger turned up.... an albino
It worked when I wanted a leopard - got a Black Panther

Oh - and growing the rosa for the badger wasn't going to interfere with getting the chaffinch - after all how likely is it that a red squirrel will compete with chaffinches when there's only the one plant?

11) Setting up for something long-term (like endangered or plants to attract gazelles) will instantly create a 1) in the newsfeed with a whole new animal or category requiring completely different plants.
