So Viridia was spotted in my garden. I thought she would leave more grass for my 5th cow. Am I supposed to get the grass somewhere?

Betty, as with the other fairytales, each toadstool only yields one set of materials for harvest.  If you want more grass, you'll need to harvest the toadstool in the rainbow pot and replant.  When the toadstool reaches the "Attracting a fairy" stage with the bubble on top, you can use berries to get the fairy to harvest more grass onto an empty low table.  (You'll also need to harvest and replant for treasure; and, since you have no beanstalk, your treasure will go solely to the magpies / magpie pairs.)

Is is worth trying to do this tale without a shroom? Should I freeze until I can find enough seeds for more shrooms, or try with a regular mushroom?

i wouldn't have tried without the shroom. I had enough issues with the giant while using the shroom. Jack was my most unfav fairytale to complete lol. But only because of that darn giant!

You need to dust your beanstalk to "fully grown" so that it will attract Jack (and the Giant).
