We haven't been able to do it that way for a long time.

From storage, right click Use and then click Inspect.  In your garden with a plant in, right click Water It, and then Inspect.

The pot number is the 8 digit number which shows up in the box of text which pops up.  I see it in brackets next to Usepot from storage, and  from the garden it shows in brackets next to the word Water.
